What can we do to help?

For too long, men have been pushed to the side and treated as second class citizens. This has been the case due to the continual implementation of Equality Laws that, although are classified as Equality Laws, are Gender Biased.
By Gender Biased, we mean they favour one sex over the other. Any people will deny this but, we only have to look at a few areas to see this is indeed the case.
• Family Law
• Health
• Housing
• Benefits
• CSA/CED
• Support services
• Funding

Family Law has, for many years, been stuck in a Gender Biased arena. “Childs best interest has not been the fore thought in the judiciaries mind when making decisions. In fact, just recently, we were informed of a case where the judge denied a father the right to have his child for the weekend as “the child would pine for his mother”. Now, how do we deal with this? Is it discrimination, prejudice or downright biased?

Women have many health awareness advertisements going around in the media. These go from Cervical Cancer to Breast Cancer. There are few, to none, for men. Testicular cancer is a cause of high numbers of deaths amongst en. This is only one illness men suffer and die from and which is not “screened” for, or publicly advertised. Men die younger than women. Is this a genetic make of the male genes, or is this due to the working practices men face, lack of health support or general ignorance to men as whole?

Benefits are granted to women, and in some cases, used by women , as a means of getting at the father of a child. Child Benefit is awarded to one parent, more times than not, the mother. This is the case in Shared Residence cases. This is unfair as this gives better standards of living, and the awarding of other benefits, to the mother, whereas the father misses out as Child Benefit forms the back bone of all other benefits.

Child Maintenance is another area which needs total reform. For many years, men have paid the mother direct, yet when asked by CSA/CMED the mother denies this. Her word is accepted over the fathers, which in turns causes financial hardship to the father.

Domestic Abuse is a taboo subject for men, yet more and ore men are coming forward and highlighting how they have been a victim. Support services do not exist in this area for men, instead men are left to deal with emotional and physical trauma on their own. Women have millions of pounds of funding poured into their support services. The Health Service are guilty of breaching Section 75 Laws by not ensuring same level of services are employed for men.
Funding is non existent for men in general. This is in all aspects of life and something which needs challenged at all levels.
