Mens "not so" Advisory Project

Real Fathers for Justice NI Branch, have proven that MAP NI are using taxpayers money, under the guise of a so called "mens advisory", to pay more in wages to themselves than they do in providing a quality service to men.

Contact details have been removed as RFFJ NI do not support or recognise MAP NI.

CONFIDENTIAL COUNSELLING FOR MEN

MAP exists to provide counselling services for men experiencing domestic abuse. We can provide support and facilitate you to understand your options and make your own choices and decisions. We can also put you in touch with organisations that can help you further. We also offer support and counselling services to men who have previously left a violent or abusive relationship and who are still experiencing the effects.
After you make contact with our organisation, you will be invited to meet with one of our counsellors to see how we can best meet your needs. Once your meeting has taken place we will set you up with a standing appointment usually at the same time, once a week for an hour. We aim to deliver our services between
the hours of 9am and 9pm to facilitate employment, childcare and family obligations.
ANGER MANAGEMENT

MAP offers a range of services to men and women who want assistance and support to deal with their anger. These services are available to those who wish to understand powerful emotions, cope more with stress in their lives and adopt more appropriate behaviours for healthy relationships. Anger management services can be delivered through 1 to 1 counselling or an anger management group programme. We recognise that, although much has been written on anger management, our experience has been that the client is the expert on their anger management problem. It is our aim to help the client develop insight into their current way of dealing with their anger, how effective and useful that might be for them, and how they can make changes that will improve their quality of life and their interpersonal relationships.

Men at Risk

Domestic violence, for so long considered to solely affect women, claims the lives of over 30 men per year nationwide. One man in six will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in his life.

Domestic violence is defined as any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between adults who are or have been in a relationship together, or between family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.

Whatever form it takes, domestic violence is rarely a one-off incident. More usually it's a pattern of abusive and controlling behaviour through which the abuser seeks power over their victim.

Domestic violence occurs across society, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, wealth and geography. The figures show, however, that it consists mainly of violence by men against women. However, men are by no means exclusively the perpetrators of the crime.

Taboo subject

Domestic violence against men is a taboo subject that is rarely aired in public because often men are too ashamed to admit it's happening or they lack proof that the attacks have taken place.

Victims of domestic violence suffer on many levels from health and housing to education. They lose the freedom to live their lives how they want and without fear.

An exhaustive and comprehensive support system exists for female victims of domestic violence. However, male victims often feel isolated and more worryingly embarrassed due to a lack of social support for their plight.
